Manchester Vermont History

Manchester Vermont is located at the foot of 3,816-foot
Mount Equinox mountain and is on Route 7A south. Manchester Village
has an old world atmosphere and Manchester Center is a shopper's
paradise. Manchester Vermont's historic buildings have allot of
tradition and was also the home town of a relative of Abraham
Lincoln. When you visit us in picturesque Manchester Vermont,
make sure to stop by and see the Robert Todd Lincoln's summer
estate, and the beauty that surrounds you here in Manchester Vermont.
The Civil War had brought tragedy to many Vermont
families, and many young men who served our country never returned
to Vermont At the time the town was named Factory Point. The town's
people got together and wound up changing their name to Manchester
Center to dispel the impression that Factory Point was a noisy,
smoky Vermont industrial center, and a new section of town, Manchester
Depot sprang up around the busy railroad station. Manchester Vermont
was born, and the rest is history.
