The Civil War had brought tragedy to many Vermont families, and many young men who served our country never returned to Vermont At the time the town was named Factory Point. The town's people got together and wound up changing their name to Manchester Center to dispel the impression that Factory Point was a noisy, smoky Vermont industrial center, and a new section of town, Manchester Depot sprang up around the busy railroad station. Manchester Vermont was born, and the rest is history.
